How to find products to sell on Etsy
Most sellers pick products by guessing — or by trusting keyword tools that only estimate what people search. The sellers who win look at what people actually buy. Here's how to do that with real demand data.
Why most Etsy product research fails
The popular tools — eRank, EverBee, Sale Samurai, Marmalead — mostly give you estimated search volume: a guess at how many people type a phrase into Etsy. That tells you what's popular to search, not what's selling. Plenty of high-search keywords are saturated graveyards where nothing converts; plenty of quiet keywords quietly print money. Search-volume estimates can't tell them apart.
The four signals that actually predict sales
Etsy publishes real demand signals right on the listing. These are facts, not forecasts:
1. “N people bought this in the last 24 hours.” The strongest signal there is — a product literally selling today.
2. “In N carts / baskets.” Buyers who added it and are about to check out — a leading indicator of sales.
3. Views in the last 24 hours. Live interest, even before the sale.
4. The “Listed on” date. Etsy renews it when a listing sells, so a recently-renewed older listing is a quiet, steady seller.
A free way to start: Etsy autocomplete
Type a seed word into Etsy's search bar and watch the suggestions — they're ordered by real shopper search frequency, straight from Etsy, for free. Add one letter at a time (a, b, c…) and stack modifiers (material, style, occasion, recipient) to mine dozens of buyer-intent phrases. Then check which of those phrases have listings that are actually selling.
The workflow
1. Pick a niche you can make — t-shirts, printables, jewelry, mugs.
2. Look at live demand, not search volume. Which listings sold in the last 24 hours? How many units? What's in carts?
3. Find winners before they saturate. Sort by sales velocity and study the top movers — the design, the title, the price.
4. Make your version of what's already proven to sell.
