How to Find Low-Competition Etsy Niches

Updated July 15, 2026

New shops don't lose because their product is bad — they lose because they pick saturated niches where a thousand established sellers already own page one. The fix is finding niches with real demand but manageable competition.

The ratio that matters

Don't chase raw search volume. Chase the ratio of demand to competition. A keyword with 200 searches against 2,000 listings is far more winnable than one with 1,000 searches against 50,000 listings. The sweet spot for most new shops is the “gold zone”: modest volume, low-to-medium competition, and — crucially — listings that are actually selling.

Long-tail is your friend

Specific 3–5 word phrases (“personalized dog dad camping mug”) have fewer competitors and higher buyer intent than head terms (“mug”). Stack several long-tail wins instead of fighting for one broad keyword.

Validate with live demand

A niche is only worth entering if products in it are selling. Smaller niches like Gardening, Leather Keychain, or Greeting Cards can move real volume with far less competition than the giants. Check live demand across 130+ niches →.
