How to Do Etsy Product Research for Free

Updated July 15, 2026

You can do real Etsy product research without paying for anything. The trick is to use the two free sources of truth Etsy hands you: its search bar, and the demand signals on every listing.

1. Mine Etsy autocomplete

Type a seed word into Etsy's search bar and read the suggestions — they're ordered by real shopper search frequency, straight from Etsy. Add one letter at a time (“shirt a,” “shirt b” …) and stack modifiers (material, style, occasion, recipient) to surface dozens of buyer-intent phrases for free.

2. Read the demand signals

On a listing, look for “N people bought this in the last 24 hours” and “In N carts.” Those tell you a product is selling, not just being seen. A phrase with lots of selling listings is a validated opportunity; a phrase with none is a warning.

3. Study proven winners

Browse the fastest-selling products in a niche — for example Tshirt, Coffee Mug, or Printable Wall Art — and note what the top sellers have in common. See live bestsellers by niche →, or read the full product-research guide →.
