How to Know if an Etsy Product Will Sell (Before You Make It)
The most expensive mistake on Etsy is making something before you know anyone wants it. You can de-risk almost entirely by reading demand signals that already exist on the platform.
The four signals
1. Recent sales. “N people bought this in the last 24 hours” is the strongest proof a product sells.
2. Carts. “In N carts” means buyers are seconds from checkout — a leading indicator.
3. Views. Live interest, even ahead of the sale.
4. The “Listed on” date. Etsy renews it on each sale, so a recently-renewed older listing is a steady, quiet seller.
A 60-second validation check
Before you design anything: search the product, and confirm that multiple listings show recent sales and carts — not just favorites. If the top listings are moving units, demand is real. If they're only collecting favorites, be careful. Browse proven movers in Tshirt or Pregnancy Announcement, or read the full product-research guide →.
